Stupid, Egotistical, Bastards
Darkmoon's Rants #81
So this is something that has been bothering me for a while. Dumbassed web comic artists. Ones that think they are so great the world should bend over and take it up the ass because they say so. I'll explain:
As you may have noticed, I do web comics. I'll admit, they aren't the shiny shit some people do, mostly because I can't draw people, animals, or most any form of animate objects to save my life. Quite literally. I mean, I can, but it takes hours to do a single face, because I know how to do it in a quite realistic form, not in a cartoon-y sense, like a web comic normally has. Thus, why I use sprites. Professional sprites, sure ,but sprites none-the-less.
For this reason, I have little ego about my comic. I'm sure probably the writing is decent, and if I can make myself laugh, then I figure I'm doing a decent job, but that's no guarantee. This lack of ego makes me despise all the people that have one. There are some web artists out there that think they are the salt of the earth, that the heavens put them on the planet to be lords of art, and everyone should realize this and worship them. Amen!
People, you make a web comic Sure, if you're a good artist, that's great. You should get some praise, sure. But don't act like you deserve it. I have seen web artists demand donations, withhold content until they get donations, and even take down their sites because they just aren't getting enough notice (even though they are among the elite 20 or so web comics. Online). How much fucking praise do you need people. Fan-bases should be voluntary, not compulsory.
Maybe I have a skewed version of the world because I'm friends with Miss Mab. She has absolutely no ego, and in fact thinks all her stuff older than 6 months ago is crap (no matter what--in 6 months, stuff from now will be crap, trust me). And yet, she is one of the greatest artists I have ever seen, bar none. So, since she has no ego, I think no artists should.
Still, don't act like a fucking baby if things don't go your way. Roll with the punches and be glad for what you got, because it could always be worse. Your comic could be DSWC, which garners almost no hits, and I like it that way.
