Hyrulian Makeover
Darkmoon's Rants #55
So, I'm sure everyone has seen the screens and the trailer for the new Zelda game for the GC. It's the new one that presents link in a realistic manner, much like the N64 ones tried to. It's a drastic change from the previous game, Wind Waker. Most people cheer. Some have complained, saying Nintendo gave into its fans. Here's my thought on the matter:
For those who bitched about Wind Waker: This new game is not the second coming of greatness. I know quite a few people that liked the game play in Wind Waker. They felt it was a solid evolution of the play mechanics from the previous installments.
Mostly what you're whining about is the fact that the game is cartoony. Well, I have news for you: a lot of the Zelda games have been cartoony. Look at the SNES and Game Boy titles. Those were certainly far from the most realistic graphics possible. Oh, you can argue that there were limitations to the graphics, but it's not like they couldn't do more realistic games if they wanted to back in the day. They just chose a fun, cutesy feel. And it worked. You guys just hate the fact that Nintendo is an all ages company, and you want your games to have violence, blood, and gore.
Not everyone likes that, and not everyone hated the graphics in Wind Waker. So you can shove it. It might not have been the graphics everyone was expecting, but that not a bad thing. It was different, and if anything, Nintendo should be congratulated for doing something new, something unique.
For those who are bitching about the new look: It's not like this should come as a shocker. Sure, Wind Waker was different, but before that, we'd had the two N64 titles, which were in the same vein graphically. And heck, Smash Bros. used the realistic look for it's Link.
You're whining because Nintendo listened to their fans. But come on, aren't they supposed to? I mean, making the fans happy was, I thought, their number one goal. Happy fans mean money. Money means they can make more games, which you can then buy, enjoy, and they rip to shreds on a forum somewhere while griping about the fact that Konami never puts Alucard in enough games (for the record, four games so far has featured that dude).
Nintendo is being business savvy, something a lot of people feel Nintendo has NOT done though much of it's recent career. Just shut up already. You know you're going to buy the game, so what's the point in whining over it.
As for my view: I disliked WW, but then I disliked it for the same reason I disliked the N64s. I hated the play mechanics, and felt the overall games were boring. The graphics seemed a little flat to me, but the cutesy style worked, for a change of pace. Would I want to see it all the time? Maybe. I'd have to see it after it evolved once or twice. For now, I withhold my vote.
