Critics Suck (Yes, that Means I Suck, Too)
Darkmoon's Rants #25
Yesterday (relative to when I wrote this) I watched the movie, S.W.A.T. If I remember correctly, it was made by the dude that did Fast and the Furious 1 and 2, XXX, etc. For whatever reason, the critics panned it. They never called it out and out bad, they just said it was mediocre and lacked little of anything people would want to see.
That right there made it a movie I had little desire to see. I like bad movies, and of course good movies are even better. But there isn't much point to seeing a mediocre flick, cause that just means there isn't too much to do with it except let it play and waste an hour and a half.
Unlike some of you guys out there (and more of the so called "normal" folk that wouldn't deem to visit a video gaming site), I tend to watch everything that ever gets made. Hell, I'm gearing myself up for Gigli just so I can see how bad it really is. So, while most probably had little desire to see S.W.A.T., I gave it a chance, and lemme tell ya, it was good.
This isnt a review, but a rant, so I'll skip the details and just say that it was great action, great laughs, and while the plot was nothing new and a little predictable, it wasn't anything really awful either. Well worth peoples' time.
But, see, most people won't give it the time, and that's cause critics suck. They make broad statements about a movie based upon their own feelings upon it, never considering what other people may think about it. Now yes, critics are paid for their opinion, but few ever say "if you like action, you'll like this," their just like "hated it, here's a little on why, and nothing more."
I suffer from this disorder as well, although I try to control myself better than most do. I try to analyze a movie or game from the specific genre it's geared for, and try to find some redeeming qualities. Some movies, like XXX which I detest, are loved by some, but will never get a good rating from me. Just one of those things, I can't do it.
I dunno, I guess this is more of a warning to all of you. If a critic hates a flick, but you got some time, watch it anyway. You never know, something may be there that you like.
